This post is part of Sci-Fi Month 2014, an event hosted by myself and Oh, the Books!. You can keep up to date by following @SciFiMonth on Twitter, or the official hashtag #RRSciFiMonth.

Eeeek, Sci-Fi Month is finally here! It’s been months and months of preparation, emails, spreadsheets, brainstorming, all mixed in with a very busy schedule for all of us co-hosts. But now it’s finally here, and thank you so much to everyone who has signed up so far. If you haven’t yet signed up, you can still do so any time throughout November – just take a look on the information hub.

As with last year, we encourage all participants to share an introduction post on the first day, just to tell us a little bit about why you decided to join in. Feel free to use this format if it’s easiest, or take a look at last years – I’m trying not to repeat myself.

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself.

Haha, it’s funny reading my answers to this from last year. Then I was talking about saving for my Masters – and here I am, finally doing it. So to answer the question properly: I’m Rinn, in my 20’s, and currently studying for my Archaeology Masters so I can go off and (hopefully) work as a museum curator when I graduate. I’m from the UK but right now I’m studying in the Netherlands and loving it. I came up with the idea for Sci-Fi Month in the summer of 2013, then I spoke to various bloggers and it snowballed into a huge event last November that I was SO proud of. So I’m so happy to be bringing it back this year, with the help of the lovely ladies from Oh, the Books!.

2. How have things changed since last Sci-Fi Month?

Although obviously I was a big fan of the genre before, or I wouldn’t have organised an event around it, I feel I am even more aware of the genre now. It’s one of the first things I look at when I’m finding new releases, whether it’s books, films or games. It’s like I have this instinct that tells me I need to find ALL THE SCI-FI THINGS so I can share them!

3. Have you been to any sci-fi related events over the past year?

Yes, I visited the Doctor Who Experience in Cardiff, and also attended London Film and Comic-con. I was also planning on going to FACTs, a convention in Ghent, Belgium in October but sadly it was right around exam time and I thought revision was more important. Even though it basically melted my brain.

DON'T BLINK. WHATEVER YOU DO, DON'T BLINK.

4. What do you have planned for Sci-Fi Month?

Okay so I’m not posting EVERY DAY like last year. That was exhausting – well the whole event was, but it was totally worth it. I had tonsillitis for nearly two weeks of it last year, but I was still commenting and maintaining the schedule every day. Probably should have put my health first but… I’m fine now! ๐Ÿ˜‰ I’ll be posting two or three times a week this month – I’ve got some lists, blogger panels, reviews, special editions of my usual features and some totally new ones. You’ll just have to wait and see…

I’m so glad that Sci-Fi Month is finally here! Are you participating? What are you most looking forward to?

  1. I am so glad I found out about sci-fi month and your blog! This is my first time participating in an event like this and I am really looking forward to it!
I have mostly reviews and one discussion post a week planned. And I kicked off the month today with a poll which is part of a meme were readers can choose from 3 books what I should this month! Signing-up for this event also made me more aware of the genre.

  2. Yay for Sci Fi Month, and Yay for Doctor Who!

What am I most looking forward to? Readers discovering new titles and authors that they wouldn’t have usually read.

    • Haha, if only I could, I think running both would be a little too much ๐Ÿ˜‰ I feel I can barely cope with SFM this year, have barely written any of my own posts so far – oops ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

  3. Raymond Smith

I follow this site for it gives me great reviews of books for me to read in the future. Scifi is one type of book I read for nothing but pure relaxation and enjoyment. I thank all of you in advance for the hard work you put in on your articles. I look forward to your recommendations. Again THANK you All!

  4. Thank you for organising this event – I think it’s such a brilliant idea!

Wow, I bet you’re having an amazing time in the Netherlands! What made you decide to go and study there?

It’s a shame I’m not a fan of Doctor Who, because I live very near Cardiff!

I look forward to your posts this month, Rinn! ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Thanks Jess ๐Ÿ˜€

The course is perfect, the university has a really good reputation – and the fees are a quarter of what I would pay at home ๐Ÿ˜‰

  5. I WISH I WAS PARTICIPATING NOW. But If I was, I definitely would not have had the time to read a ton of books or schedule posts. I MIGHT TRY NEXT YEAR THOUGH. I mean, I know when the signups are ๐Ÿ˜€

I AM SUPER EXCITED FOR THIS MONTH RINN. I HOPE EVERYTHING GOES AWESOME FOR YOU!

    • If you change your mind, you can sign up any time in the month, it’s fine! ๐Ÿ˜€ Even if you just wanted to do one post, that’s fine!

      Thanks Valerie! <3

  6. Hello, great idea & event ! Currently doing NaNoWriMo, so not sure I would manage something else in the same month. But definitively will follow, I mainly read SF anyway ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. This is such a great idea and thank you for hosting it- kudos to you and the Oh The Books crew. ๐Ÿ™‚ Looking forward to it and all the great posts- have a great month!

    • It wasn’t until I hosted it last year that I realised just how many of my fellow bloggers also love science fiction – it’s exciting ๐Ÿ˜€

  8. I’m so excited for this event! ๐Ÿ˜€ I want to read MORE science fiction and grab so many books off my library shelves to read and enjoy! ๐Ÿ˜€

HAHA, buttplug gnome! I find that endlessly hilarious for some reason. ๐Ÿ˜›

    • UGH I KNOW I WANT TO READ ALL THE SCI-FI RIGHT NOW but uni and stuff. Goshhhh. Plus I have to read a blog tour book for December first, I’m starting now because it’s taking me forever to read stuff at the mo.

Yes, it’s a very very failed Santa with a Christmas tree…

    • Yup, I planned them out at least a month in advance so luckily I wasn’t writing any posts during that month ๐Ÿ™‚ And it wasn’t a chore, somehow, haha! I just got ill which was a pain.

It feels more like a chore this time, but that’s because I’m so busy and I’ve been an AWFUL host so far!! ๐Ÿ™
